Tom Hiddleston has teased that the upcoming Loki TV show will be "a new departure" from the Marvel movies.

Set to stream on Disney+, the series will focus centrally on Hiddleston's titular God of Mischief, who terrorised and mocked Earth's Mightiest Heroes across several MCU releases.

Since his debut in 2011's Thor, Loki quickly became one of the most popular characters in the record-breaking franchise – although he's presumed dead after Avengers: Infinity War.

Making an appearance at the recent Shanghai International Film Festival, Hiddleston revealed the official title of his spin-off series to The Hollywood Reporter, whilst also adding a cheeky hint at what audiences can expect.

"All I can tell you is that it is called Loki," he noted. "It is a new departure... but I can't explain why."

It's previously been reported that the show will follow the trickster as he weaves through a number of real-life historical events, becoming an influencer in many unusual situations.

Meanwhile, the actor has also reflected on the opportunity to play Loki.

"It is a constant source of surprise and delight that these films have connected with people," he said. "I knew he was a complex figure. Intelligent yet vulnerable. Angry and lost and broken and witty.

"I thought it was an amazing opportunity and it's grown into this network of movies. I could never have expected it. I feel very fortunate that this character has connected with people".
