Tom Holland is exactly how Stan Lee saw Spider-Man

From Digital Spy

Stan Lee, the co-creator behind so many of Marvel Comics' most memorable characters, has seen plenty of his heroes make the transition from the page to the big screen.

It's inevitable that certain characters will undergo changes as they make the jump, what with the filmmakers having tons of different writers and artists' interpretations to pull from, plus the actors bringing their own stamp to their role.

But for Lee, one casting choice is absolutely spot-on.

"I think @TomHolland1996 is a great Spider-Man," he tweeted. "He is the exact height and age I envisioned when I first wrote Spider-Man.

"Spidey was never supposed to be too large. How is my friend Tom doing?"

Hate it to break it to you Stan, be we don't think Tom is feeling so good...

Joking aside, the Avengers: Infinity War star replied to tell Stan that "it all started with you sir", and was looking forward to catching up soon.

Stan also tweeted that he had trouble getting his and Steve Ditko's creation approved at first, because of the creature he was based on.

"Never give up on your dreams!" he wrote. "When I first wrote Spider-Man my publisher said I was crazy because people hate spiders and insects and he was not going to publish it.

"But I never gave up, until it was published."

Lee was hospitalised with heart trouble and had a bout of pneumonia earlier this year, but the 95-year old comics legend is said to be doing well.

Hopefully, that means he can make plenty more Marvel movie cameos (that are all connected, by the way) in years to come.

Avengers: Infinity War is out now. Book tickets here.
