Tom Jones Hits Back At The BBC After Being Axed From The Voice

What have we learned about Sir Tom Jones today? He doesn’t mince his words.

The legendary star launched into a foul-mouthed, bleep-worthy rant about the BBC bosses, telling them to go “f*** themselves” after being axed from The Voice.

In a recent interview with The Times newspaper the iconic crooner revealed that he wasn’t given any warning before being dropped from the talent show and replaced by Boy George.

He said: “I don’t give a f***. I enjoyed it, but if they don’t want me any more, they can go f*** themselves.” Are you sure that you don’t give a flip, Tom?

The 75-year old had been a coach on the show for four years from its first series in 2012 but it seems that Tom only found out the news that things had been shaken up this year at the same time as we did.

So it’s perhaps no wonder that Tom comments: “What a cold place the BBC is. Sometimes you wonder whether it’s run by humans or a machine in the basement,” in his new autobiography – available from all good retailers on 8th October *wink wink*.

In a slightly more articulate response, Tom aired his views on Facebook: “In good faith, as part of the team, I’d put the time in my schedule to be involved in Series 5, as I’ve done so for the last 4 years. I’ve supported the show and the BBC since the beginning. I was told yesterday, with no consultation or conversation of any kind, that I would not be returning.”

He continued to share his disappointment: “Having been through plenty of transformations throughout the years, I support and admire creative change. But being informed, as a matter of duty and respect, is an important part of creative relationships. This sub-standard behaviour from the executives is very disappointing.

“I will always admire the courage of the performers who participate in the show, as well as all the production staff who worked tirelessly to make a great family viewing experience for the audience at home. I wish the show well.“

We’re not sure on the validity of that closing comment though.

Paloma Faith will also be joining the reality show’s line-up this year but not before consoling Sir Tom.

She told The Mirror: “I spoke to him about it and he was very upset about the way they handled his exit. That was sad for him, but I’m sure Tom Jones has got a lot of other things he can be doing because he is a national treasure and a legend. I don’t think he will lose too much sleep over it.”

Nevermind Tom, if we were the BBC bosses, we’d be sleeping with our eyes wide open from now on…
