Tom Walker hired a Ford Mustang while on tour in America to listen to his new album for the first time.

The 26-year-old, whose single Leave A Light On topped the charts in 16 countries, was in Chicago when he rented the yellow sports car to celebrate the release of his album What A Time To Be Alive, out next month.

He told A-List: “I was about to order an Uber and I just thought, ‘Why not?’ I needed somewhere to listen to my album so I put it in the car stereo and drove around.”

Walker sold out his US and Canadian dates and will perform at Shepherd’s Bush Empire on October 17. The singer, who was born in Scotland but moved to London six years ago, said: “It’s always nice to go back up north. My dad still has the stereo he bought me when I was 14, which we listened to my new album on.

“It may look like an overnight success but it has been a slow burn. Three years ago I was driving around in my VW Fox, now I’m on a tour bus with eight crew [members]. It’s mad.”
