Tomahawk Steakhouse announces 'fish and chips coming back to Yarm' as signs erected
Tomahawk Steakhouse has confirmed it will open a new fish and chip shop in Yarm to the delight of foodies.
Branding has been erected at 89 High Street featuring Tomahawk's iconic bull logo. Window posters have also been put up which read "fish and chips coming back to Yarm soon". The shop, previously home to the Pollo takeaway launched by Tomahawk, is located between Aspire Hairdressing and Beauty, and Browns Carpets and Flooring.
The brand - which already runs it's steakhouse from Fairfax Court in Yarm - is expected to open the chippy in early 2025. Inside of the shop appears empty, save for white tiles on the walls and commercial steel kitchen units, with work set to take place.
The erection of the Tomahawk signage follows the closure of Barnacles at 105 High Street, which left the town without a fish and chip shop. That site is now home to Yarm Pizza.
Tomahawk teased plans to open the fish and chip shop in Yarm earlier this year in a post on Facebook on June 5. It said: "Yarm residents we need your help… As you may know there is now no fish and chips on Yarm High Street.
"We at Tomahawk want to know if the demand is still there for a good quality fish and chip shop? If it is, we could bring this fish and chip shop to the High Street. Let us know in the comments."
The post received 128 comments with many delighted at the thought of a new chippy. One Teessider said: "Definitely still room for a chippy, would be lovely to walk by the river with!"
Another added: "Yes please! Tourists coming to our lovely town of Yarm don't always want pubs/bars or cafés no matter how nice, a traditional fish n chip shop would be great for everyone."
With no official opening date announced as yet, Tomahawk has signposted eagers diners to their Fairfax Court venue - where fish and chips are available for sit in or takeaway between 12pm to 7pm. The chain has steakhouses across the North-east including Potto, Saltburn and Middlesbrough and has plans to open a new steakhouse in the Metrocentre.
