Tomb Raider trailer: Alicia Vikander gives Angelina Jolie a run for her money in action-packed first look

Alicia Vikander proves she’s every inch the action star in the first trailer for the eagerly-awaited Tomb Raider reboot.

The Oscar-winner gives former Lara Croft actress Angelina Jolie a run for her money in the updated version of the video game spin-off, which is set for release next March.

The brand new trailer, which debuted on Wednesday morning, shows Vikander playing the iconic character at the very beginning of her story.

Focusing on Croft as a young woman, the film follows her as she tries to find purpose in life following the death of her eccentric adventurer father.

Refusing to simply accept that he is gone, she sets out to solve his mysterious death and goes in search of a fabled tomb on a mythical island to track him down.

“She has all the fierce, tough, curious, intelligent traits, but we’ve stripped away all of her experience,” Vikander said back in July.

Vikander, who won an Oscar for her role in The Danish Girl, landed the role over Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley last year.

She takes over from Angelina Jolie, who starred in 2001’s Lara Croft: TombRaider and The Cradle of Life in 2003.

Film fans were quick to notice a mistake in the new Tomb Raider poster, which was released on Tuesday.

The heavily-photoshopped image shows the actress bending around in an uncomfortable-looking way, with a bizarrely long neck.
