Love Island’s Tommy Fury has said he wouldn’t let girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague propose to him, claiming any man who would “is not a man”.

The boxer and reality TV star, 20, made the shocking statement in an interview about the couple’s relationship and their plans for the future, with Hague seeming not to be bothered by his views.

When OK! magazine asked Hague whether she might be the one to propose first as 2020 is a leap year, Fury replied for her: “Any man who lets a woman propose is not a man. It’s obviously gone wrong somewhere.

“Imagine if she did that!”

It wasn’t clear what would happen if she did do that, but it was obvious that Fury would not be impressed.

However, the comment seemed to wash over Hague, 20, who said: “We chat about the future a lot. I don’t know if we seem stupid because we are so young, but we’ve found everything we want so why can’t we talk about marriage and babies as it is going to happen.”

Referring to a joke she’d made about Fury asking her to marry him when they visit the Maldives for New Year, she reassured him that there was no pressure to get things moving so quickly.

She added that she wasn’t expecting a big proposal, saying: "I’d be happy with a Haribo ring if it meant we were getting married.”

The couple met on this summer’s series of Love Island, where they finished as runners-up to Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea.

But the winning pair split not long after the series ended, while Fury and Hague’s relationship has gone from strength to strength - including moving into an apartment in Manchester together less than two months later.

The first series of Winter Love Island is due to begin airing on ITV2 on January 8, taking place in South Africa.
