Eighties fans in the North East will be able to share some golden memories later this year following news that Spandau Ballet star Tony Hadley has announced a new tour.

And those who can bear to think about the festive season, when we've barely left the previous one behind, can get booking this week for The Christmas Big Band Tour which is to stop off at The Glasshouse in Gateshead in December. Hadley, frontman of the huge eighties new wave band behind such hits as Gold and True, will be leading a retro party but this time it will see him perform hits of golden oldies such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Elvis Presley as well as other swing anthems, jazz standards and crooner classics.

He also will be blending 'new' with old, treating fans to reworkings of some of his Spandau Ballet hits. There will be pre-sale ticket opportunities for the tour - which includes The Glasshouse date on December 12 - from 10am this Thursday, January 30. Then tickets will go on general sale at the same time on Friday, January 31.

It follows the success of Hadley's Big Swing tour last year and the release of his own new swing album The Mood I’m In and it is described as 'a perfect night out just before Christmas'. The former New Romantic favourite turned solo star, known for his powerful voice and stage charisma, said: “I absolutely loved last year’s tour with my big band.

"It rekindled my excitement and passion for the songs that formed such an important part of my childhood, songs that inspired me to pursue a singing career." He added: "For this year’s tour we will be visiting some of my favourite swing classics along with big band songs that I have never performed before.

"I never tire of performing True, Gold and Through the Barricades and look forward to including these great songs in the set as well." He will be joined on the tour by his Fabulous TH Band as well as a full live brass section. For tickets keep an eye out at MyTicket here.
