Tony Romo Clarifies Why He Called Taylor Swift 'Travis Kelce's Wife'
"I root for them to get married," the sports commentator said during CBS Sports' press day on Tuesday
Tony Romo is just as enamored with Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift's romance as everyone else.
On Tuesday, the sports commentator, 43, revealed to reporters at CBS Sports' press day that he referred to Swift, 34, as the Kansas City Chiefs tight end's wife during two December games because he's hoping the couple is in it for the long haul.
"I root for them to get married," Romo said ahead of Super Bowl LVIII, per Entertainment Tonight. "'Cause they're not married, guys, I was joking."
The former Dallas Cowboys player first referred to Swift as Kelce's wife at the Bills vs. Chiefs game on Dec. 10. "As you see, Kelce’s wife, Taylor Swift, in the audience," Romo said, before catching his mistake and correcting himself, adding, "Er, I'm sorry. Girlfriend!"
"Not yet," another commentator replied while laughing at Romo's mixup.

Then, during the Chiefs Christmas day game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Romo made the blunder again. In a video posted by ESPN at the time, he can be heard saying, "And his wife loves it, I mean, girlfriend,” Romo said in the video.
Play-by-play broadcaster Jim Nantz responded, "You’ve been down that road with that before."
Happily, Swift didn't hold the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback's mistake against him. On the field after Kelce, 34, and the Chiefs locked up the AFC Championship, Swift and Romo were spotted chatting about their "different" skill sets.

"Well, we’re doing very different things, aren’t we?” Swift said with a smile, before adding: “It’s a different skill set.”
“Yeah,” Romo responded. They then gave each other a friendly fist bump.
At the press conference, Romo added that both Swift and Kelce have a "humble heart," before expressing his appreciation for the "Anti-Hero" singer and her relationship with the tight end.
"I just sit there and, you know, think about her gift and her ability to create and make something that so many people love, and I think it's just really unique to find or be around anybody on Earth who has the ability to have a talent at that level," he said.
Romo continued, "And so Travis has the same thing as a tight end, and you know, I root for them. I like them both and I think they're both amazing people."
