I took the Lincolnshire Show shuttle bus from Lincoln and it was relatively hassle free

The Lincolnshire Show is back for 2024 and around 60,000 people are expected to attend over two days. Held annually at the county's showground, the event is in its 139th year and is one of the most successful agricultural shows in the UK.

Almost every year, there is heavy traffic around the Lincolnshire Showground on the A15 and surrounding roads as thousands make their way to the show. Stagecoach is supporting the show again with special extended bus services from Gainsborough, as well as a return shuttle bus service between Lincoln railway station and the showground on both days, which runs every 15 minutes.

I decided to give the Service 555 shuttle bus a go from Lincoln to see how smoothly they run and if they're worth getting. I arrived at Lincoln station just after 9am on Wednesday morning (June 19) and immediately overheard a disgruntled woman on the phone to her husband complaining about the fact she'd been waiting for half an hour - not a good start.

However, I had luckily timed my arrival pretty well as a purple and white double decker turned up just five minutes later. It pulled up on the opposite side to where everyone was queuing, meaning around 30 of us had to cross over the road, which of course led to some grumbling from my fellow passengers.

A return ticket to the show set me back £5.50, which I didn't think was too bad given the convenience. The bus set off at around 9.15am and all was going smoothly until we reached the B1398 just north of Burton and were forced to decelerate to walking pace.

We arrived at Gate 6 on the showground at 9.47am. The journey back was much smoother and the driver was kind enough to let me off at a stop closer to home. If you're looking for a relatively cheap and hassle-free way of getting the the Lincolnshire Show, a Stagecoach shuttle bus is definitely the way to go.

The first bus leaves the city centre at 8.30am, with buses running approximately every 15 minutes in both directions throughout the day. The last bus from the showground departs at 6.30pm on both days.

If you're coming from Gainsborough, Service 554 will provide a shuttle bus between Gainsborough Bus Station and the Lincolnshire Showground calling at Lea Green, Knaith Park, Willingham by Stow, Stow and Sturton by Stow. The bus will leave Gainsborough bus station at 8.05am, and the return service from the showground will leave at 5.45pm.
