Top Boy's fifth and final season has released a first-look teaser, and has also confirmed a release month.

The Netflix series was confirmed to be ending over a year ago, having been revived by the streamer in 2019 after a two-season run on Channel 4 nearly a decade beforehand.

In the short clip, we see Sully (Kano) tearfully speak as a brief montage of him and Dushane (Ashley Walters) is shown, with the character saying: "If we are not monsters, we're food... and I can never be food."

Netflix has also confirmed that the new season of Top Boy will premiere in September, though a specific date is yet to be revealed.

The series focuses on the two aforementioned drug dealers in Hackney, with the fifth season (and third on Netflix) touted as a "final reckoning".

"For those that have followed the journey from the start, you will know how much this show means to everyone on our team and we wholeheartedly know how much it means to you," Kano and Walters previously said of the show ending.

"These characters have been a part of our lives for over a decade now and without everyone's support we couldn't have come this far.

"Whilst the journeys of Dushane and Sully have remained at the core of the show, the new characters that have entered the world of Top Boy have become a key part of the show's legacy, representing each new storyline in a raw, authentic way.

"With all this being said, and staying true to our original goal, every story must have an ending and so season three will be our finale. A chance to come full circle and end the journey in the right way."

Season 5 is also set to see the returns of Little Simz, Jasmine Jobson, Saffron Hocking and Araloyin Oshunremi, while Eternals' Barry Keoghan and Peaky Blinders' Brian Gleeson join the cast as Jonny and Tadgh.

Top Boy season 5 will premiere on Netflix in September.
