Fichtner – who has a love of cars and is actually a competitive racer outside of his acting career – will be joined on the show, called Top Gear America, by fellow co-hosts Antron Brown and Tom 'Wookie' Ford.

Brown is a drag racer, while Ford is a motoring journalist and TV presenter who previously co-hosted Fifth Gear.

"We are big fans of the mix of cars, credibility, and charisma that adds up to the winning formula for Top Gear, and couldn't be happier that BBCA is now the home for the franchise in the US, with Top Gear America joining the original show on our network," said BBC America's president Sarah Barnett.

"Bill, Antron, and Wookie are serious gearheads who never take themselves too seriously. It will be quite the trip."

The new run of episodes have been so far more positively received than last series, which had Chris Evans as lead host.
