New Top Gear trailer: Freddie Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness make their debut in first teaser footage

A new Top Gear teaser trailer starring the show’s brand new presenting line-up has given fans a sneak preview of what to expect from the forthcoming season.

The 30 second clip, which aired shortly after co-host Matt LeBlanc said goodbye to the motoring series, shows Paddy McGuinness, Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff and Chris Harris embarking on a bumpy ride in a modified Daimler hearse.

After the gang have painted the vehicle blue and inexplicably installed a ball pit, they put the newly souped-up ‘Undertaker’ vehicle to the test on a Welsh rally course.

Former England cricketer Flintoff takes the driver’s seat, while his co-host McGuinness pleads with him to “go easy on the car, it’s a prototype!” as the vehicle flips onto its side.

Flintoff and McGuinness were confirmed to join motoring journalist Harris on the long-running show in October, after LeBlanc announced his departure.

Take Me Out presenter McGuinness described the gig as “a real honour” and said he was “thrilled the BBC have given [him] this opportunity”.

“To be hosting a show I’ve watched and loved from being a small boy is beyond exciting,” he said. “Top Gear fans worldwide are a passionate bunch and I consider myself one of them.”

Flintoff said the role was a “dream” as he was “passionate about cars.”

Explaining his decision to step down from the show, Friends star LeBlanc said that his time on the show had been “great fun,” but explained that the “time commitment and extensive travel… takes me away from my family and friends more than I’m comfortable with.”

“It’s unfortunate, but for these reasons I will not be continuing my involvement with the show,” he said. “I will forever be a Top Gear fan and I wish the team continued success. Thanks for a great drive.”

Top Gear returns to BBC Two later this year.
