A Quiet Place: Part II and Top Gun: Maverick have fallen to the same fate as Disney's live-action Mulan and its upcoming Star Wars features, with the release dates for both titles delayed once more.

John Krasinski's Quiet Place sequel was originally pushed back in April, along with Tom Cruise's return to Top Gun, as the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continued to disrupt the entertainment industry across the world.

Despite some social-distancing restrictions being lifted, and cinemas slowly re-opening, the two long-awaited movies have now been re-scheduled to 2021.

After initially being moved to September 2020, A Quiet Place: Part II is now expected to premiere April 23, 2021. Meanwhile, Top Gun: Maverick's December 2020 release has been put off for a further seven months, with a July 1, 2021 date now planned.

In a statement, Paramount's president of domestic distribution Chris Aronson explained the studio's desire for audiences to see movies on the big screen. "We truly believe that there is no movie-viewing experience like the one enjoyed in theatres," he said.

Hoping for more certainty in the coming months following the peak of the coronavirus outbreak, Mark Viane added: "We are committed to the theatrical experience and our exhibition partners.

"[We] want to stress that we are confident that, when the time comes, audiences everywhere will once again enjoy the singular joy of seeing Paramount films on the big screen."
