Cleaning a duvet can be quite the challenge, as they are often too large to fit into a washing machine. However, TV's Queen of Clean, Lynsey Crombie, has shared a straightforward tip for keeping your duvet fresh without the hassle. Taking to Instagram, Lynsey advised: "Want to wash your duvet but it doesn't fit in your washing machine? Don't force it in as it could break your machine!"

She suggests that airing your duvet outside is an easier and more natural method than wrestling it into a washing machine. Lynsey explained the benefits of this approach: "Putting your duvet outside can revitalise it in many ways. The warmth of the sunshine can help restore the bounce and fluffiness of your duvet which can gradually fade over time."

By hanging your duvet out in the sun, you can eliminate any musty smells, and the sunlight's UV rays can act as a natural bleach, helping to whiten discoloured fabric, reports the Express. To freshen up your duvet, all you need to do is hang it outside on a sunny day for a few hours, then finish off with a spritz of fabric refresher.

Lynsey added: "Give it a spritz with your favourite fabric refresher. The wind will also help re-fluff your duvet and the sunlight is a brighter and natural disinfectant." One curious cleaning fan asked Lynsey in the comment section what type of fabric refresher to use, and she replied: "At the moment I love the Marks and Spencer fabric refresher but I make my own too."

This simple cleaning tip will help get your duvet clean while also whitening and fluffing it up so it looks brand new once again. In the comment section, many Queen of Clean fans were amazed by the results and some people also spoke about their own experience of trying this hack.

One user said: "I do this on really sunny days to duvets and pillows. I don't spray anything. Just flip after a few hours and let the sun do its magic."

Another person wrote: "This is brilliant! I don't want the fuss of taking [a duvet] to the launderette so I'm going to try this next weekend." Someone else commented: "I have a thick double king and had no idea what to do...I tried this and it's come out like a treat! ".
