Topless Briton Arrives Back From Malaysia

Eleanor Hawkins, the British tourist who controversially stripped on a sacred Malaysian mountain, has returned to the UK.

The 23-year-old had pleaded guilty to taking her clothes off on Mount Kinabalu on Borneo island on 30 May.

Mark Stone, who was at Kuala Lumpur International Airport as she boarded the flight to Heathrow, said: "She was accompanied as she passed through by a woman we believe was a consulate official and a couple of Malaysian officials.

"She looked pretty stressed and didn't want to speak to anyone."

Miss Hawkins, along with fellow tourists Danielle and Lindsey Petersen from Canada, and Dylan Snel from the Netherlands, were sentenced to three days in jail and fined £1,000 on Friday.

All four had pleaded guilty to committing an "obscene act in a public place to the annoyance of others".

As they had already spent three days in custody leading up to the court appearance, they were immediately ordered out of the country.

After the verdict, Miss Hawkins - an aeronautical engineering graduate from Derby - said she was "pleased and happy" to be returning home.

The court heard the group had been making a large amount of noise and some had urinated in a pond during the incident, offending tribal elders in the Mount Kinabalu area.

Some in Malaysia - including officials - had blamed their actions for causing a deadly 6.0-magnitude earthquake.

The World Heritage Site is considered sacred to tribal groups on Borneo, and many Malaysians were furious over the photos that circulated on the internet.
