Tori Spelling remembers late “90210 ”costar Shannen Doherty as her 'wing woman' and a 'rebel': 'Love you with all my heart'

The actress remembers her "90210" costar, who died July 13 from breast cancer.

Tori Spelling penned an emotional tribute to her late Beverly Hills, 90210 costar Shannen Doherty, remembering her as a best friend, rebel, and wing woman during their earlier years in Hollywood.

Spelling, who starred opposite Doherty's Brenda Walsh as Donna Martin in the quintessential teen drama, recalled in an Instagram post her longtime friendship with the late actress — who died July 13 at the age of 53 following a long battle with breast cancer.

"I was 15 when Shan and I met," Spelling wrote. "I was the boss’s daughter with no voice and she was the star with a big voice. She took me under her wing. She gave me the belief I had a voice and was worthy. We became fast best friends. We were each others wing women, true confidantes, support systems navigating bad relationships, roommates of sorts at times, travel buddies, and so much more."

Doherty "always stuck up for me," Spelling continued. "Always believed in me when I didn’t or couldn’t believe in myself." Though the two "let a lot of outside and inside influences influence our friendship, in a world where we often don’t get to make up with the childhood friendships that formed so much of the adult you become, we got that chance," she said.

Spelling is "grateful" she and Doherty "got to go back in time as adult friends and remember why we truly loved each other to begin with." She also remembered her as "a rebel in an era when most women didn’t feel comfortable being strong," adding, "She never tried, she just was. She empowered sexiness, strength, empathy, and all topped off with wicked humor."

"I’ll carry the torch on," Spelling promised. "And I’ll stay rebellious for you. Love you with all my heart."

Both Spelling and Doherty burst into the cultural zeitgeist for their roles in Beverly Hills, 90210, centered on a group of pals navigating the trials and tribulations of high school. The Fox series ran for 10 seasons between 1990 and 2000 and also starred the late Luke Perry, Jennie Garth, and Jason Priestley, among others. The series got a face lift via the 2009 series 90210, which saw the return of original stars like Doherty and Spelling, and again in 2019's BH90210, centered on the original stars playing heightened versions of themselves.

Spelling recently appeared on Doherty's podcast earlier this year to reflect on their friendship and and how they repaired it following a falling out.
