Tori Spelling Says Not Talking to Brian Austin Green for 18 Years Was 'Almost Like Going Through a Divorce'
"I never stopped thinking about you and never stopped wanting to reach out and reconnect," Spelling told Green on his podcast 'Oldish'
Tori Spelling and Brian Austin Green are looking back on a tumultuous time in their friendship.
On the Aug. 26 episode of Green’s podcast Oldish, the two reflected on the last time they spoke before losing contact for nearly two decades.
Spelling, 51, said after Beverly Hills, 90210 ended in 2000, she and Green — who costarred on the hit series together for 10 seasons — didn’t reconnect like they promised they would.
“I remember our last conversation and the last thing we said to each other before those 18 years,” she said. “I remember crying that we were going to lose touch because we were so close. It was almost like going through a divorce or something.”
"I remember you reassuring me that it was gonna be OK," she continued. "I remember you said, 'We're always gonna be together. We're even all gonna go on vacations together.' And that was the last time we spoke for 18 years."

Green, 51, recalled trying to keep the friendship alive by going to see Spelling at her then-boyfriend and former costar Vincent Young’s home, despite having a complicated relationship with the actor, but Spelling didn’t seem interested.
“It was just this thing of like, ‘She just doesn’t want to be my friend.’ I genuinely felt that way,” he said. “I tried to visit you and I would call you. When that wasn’t reciprocated and so I gave up. I didn’t know what was going on in your life.”
Green was also in a relationship with Vanessa Marcil at the time. (Marcil joined 90210 for seasons 9 and 10, and the two ended up having a child together.) On the podcast, Spelling recalled how she wasn't fully supportive of his relationship, which caused more friction in their friendship.
“That relationship was frustrating to see from a friend’s perspective who loves someone so much. To see what is going on and see how your friend is treated and not be okay with it,” Spelling claimed of Green and Marcil’s dynamic. “But also knowing that you can’t really say anything because the person has to go through their own experience and go on their journey.”
Spelling also had a lot going on behind the scenes in her relationship with Young, which, in part, lead her to pull away from her friendship with Green.
“On my part, I lost myself in that relationship again as I had done previously in relationships,” she explained. “That relationship was not a good relationship for me and toward the end I got wrapped up and things weren’t good.”
Knowing that Green disapproved of her romance with Young, Spelling revealed she isolated herself from anyone who pushed against it.
“I shied away from you because you weren’t a fan of [my] relationship,” she said. “You had a good working relationship with Vincent but I don’t think you felt like our personal relationship was something that was correct for me. My process was different and I would shy away from those that would really fight for me. I never stopped thinking about you and never stopped wanting to reach out and reconnect.”
The next time the two came face-to-face was years later at a 90210 DVD release party when both Green and Spelling had moved on in their relationships. Still, the actress was not her friendly self.
“You were married to [now ex-husband] Dean [McDermott] and I was with [now-ex-wife] Megan [Fox] when we were still just dating — you guys got there and you never said hello to me once,” Green remembered. “I just kept missing you guys and then you were gone.”

Eventually, the two patched up their friendship. Now on great terms once again, Spelling and Green shared that they speak regularly on the phone and have rekindled their old dynamic.
“I still showed up,” Green said. “I had come to terms with knowing that wasn’t a good relationship [with Young] but you are my sister so there is no cut-off.”
