Tornado Leaves Trail of Destruction in Jefferson City

Emergency services were out in force across Jefferson City, Missouri, after a tornado tore through the center of town late on May 22.

This video shows the aftermath, early on May 23.

A reporter with the News Tribune said crews were going door-to-door on the east side of the city to check in on residents.

Emergency crews were also attempting to rescue people from collapsed buildings, the News Tribune said. Reports said some people had been evacuated before the storm hit.

The National Weather Service had issued a tornado warning for Jefferson City until midnight on May 22. Severe thunderstorms, strong tornadoes and very large hail, were forecast to continue in some areas until the early hours of May 23. Credit: Tyler Thompson via Storyful
