'Torrential' Rain Causes Flash Floods in South of France
Heavy rain brought flash flooding to Marseille and elsewhere in France on Wednesday, August 17, with Meteo France issuing a yellow alert for storms across the country.
Footage filmed by Twitter user Chris Shaw shows people taking shelter under a pavillion in Marseille, while others wade through rising floodwater. “An absolutely torrential thunderstorm here right now in Marseille,” Shaw tweeted.
The Herault, Gard, Bouches-du-Rhone, Vaucluse and Var departments were all on an orange weather alert, Meteo France’s second-highest weather warning. Credit: Chris Shaw via Storyful
