Torrential rain creates 'massive river' causing huge clean up at historic Welsh pub
Torrential rain "created a massive river" outside an historic Welsh pub, resulting in a huge clean-up operation for staff who say they are hoping to be able to re-open in time for the weekend. Footage has shown We Three Loggerheads, located in Mold, getting rushed by huge amounts of water.
The pub and restaurant, which is located in a restored 17th century coaching inn, was hit with downpours from around 6pm until 9.30pm on Sunday, March 12. Water rushed through the main entranceway and via the vents, whilst its outside beer garden area, an outdoor hut area and car park was also affected.
Thunderstorms brought an abrupt end to the fine weather at the weekend, and more heavy rain has followed on Monday, where downpours are expected to continue all day, with a yellow warning for rain starting at 8am and running until midnight. Pub supervisor Callum Norman said: "The torrential rain has just flooded the area out, it created a massive river. We're all working hard to get everything cleaned up in time for the weekend. It has come through the main entrance and via the vents, having started from around 6pm until 9.30pm.
"We managed to unlock all the drains and got the water away down the drains. Thankfully, it is not too bad, but there's just a lot of cleaning. There's been no damage caused at all which is something. We're staying closed for today, and are looking to re-open on Thursday."
The Met Office forecast for Wales on Monday, May 13 reads: "Turning unsettled from the west with heavy and persistent rain sweeping across much of the country by the afternoon, accompanied by blustery winds and feeling much cooler than of late. Maximum temperature 17 °C. Staying wet this evening as outbreaks of rain continue overnight, this often heavy and persistent. Rain confined to the far north by dawn. Brisk winds in heavy downpours. Mild. Minimum temperature 10 °C."
And Natural Resources Wales has warned: "A yellow warning for rain has been issued by the Met office and covers most of south Wales for today (Monday 13 May) This could lead to surface water flooding in some areas, which could cause localised flooding of roads, and flooding from drains, ditches and small streams."
