Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has sparked anger after accusing Israel of committing "50 Holocausts" - with Germany's leader saying he's "disgusted" by the remark. Mr Abbas made the comments in Berlin on Tuesday when asked about the upcoming 50th anniversary of the attack on the Israeli team by Palestinian militants at the 1972 Munich Olympics. Standing alongside German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, he said: "From 1947 to the present day, Israel has committed 50 massacres in Palestinian villages and cities, in Deir Yassin, Tantura, Kafr Qasim and many others, 50 massacres, 50 Holocausts."

A man is in a serious condition in hospital and two other people were injured after they were shot in north-west London. Police including armed officers were called to Dog Lane in Brent just after 7pm on Monday. A 17-year-old boy suffered non-life changing injuries, a 21-year-old man has a potentially life-changing injury and the third victim, thought to be in his early 20s, is in a serious but stable condition.
Hundreds of residents of a south London street where an explosion killed a child last week will begin returning home on Wednesday. More than 500 people were evacuated from Galpin’s Road in Thornton Heath after a blast destroyed a terraced house and killed four-year-old Sahara Salman shortly after 7am on August 8. “Residents will start to return home tomorrow in an operation managed by Merton Council, however this will take time due to the need to complete safety checks on all properties.”
An English trial set up to help rebuild the population of the endangered hen harrier has cared for and released 13 chicks this year. Since the Government-led recovery plan was launched in 2016 and the Brood Management trial two years later, numbers of the endangered bird have been rising. The Brood Management Scheme was organised by the Moorland Association, the International Bird of Prey Centre, Natural England, the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust and the Hawk and Owl Trust.

The governing Conservative Party is voting by postal ballot to choose a new party leader after Boris Johnson said he would step down following a series of scandals. Truss, who has consistently topped polls of Conservative Party members, has a 32 percentage point lead over Sunak among those who have decided to vote, the survey showed.
