Tottenham suffered their first defeat of pre-season as Roma snatched a last-gasp victory at the Red Bull Arena on Tuesday evening.

Spurs scored twice in the closing stages to seemingly rescue a point from 2-0 down before Marco Tumminello struck a last-gasp winner.

Mauricio Pochettino's men were bidding to maintain a perfect start to pre-season after victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the first game of their US tour.

But Diego Perotti scored from the spot inside 15 minutes after Cameron Carter-Vickers handled the ball inside the box. The official initially waved play on, but after being encouraged to consult his linesman awarded a penalty.

And after Harry Kane was denied a spot-kick of his own despite a clumsy challenge from former Tottenham defender Federico Fazio, Cengiz Under doubled the Serie A side's lead.

Kevin Wimmer's clearance dropped to Under, whose effort prompted a Spurs fightback.

In the 87th minute, Harry Winks bundled in a messy goal after Vincent Janssen had hit the post then, moments later, the latter looked to have sent the game to penalties, turning in Georges-Kevin N'Koudou's cross.

But the New Jersey crowd were denied a shoot-out as teenager Tumminello beat Ben Davies to a far-post cross to seal the points.
