Frank de Boer has told Christian Eriksen to take the next step in his career, with the Tottenham star possessing "all that a Barcelona player must have".

The Dane has been one of the Premier League's top performers this season, notching seven goals and 12 assists as Spurs mounted a title challenge for the second campaign running.

In the same week team-mate Dele Alli has been touted for a summer move to Manchester City by Xavi - which prompted Mauricio Pochettino to joke that the Barca great his "enemy" - Eriksen has also been tipped to leave.

"I think he can have a wonderful career," De Boer, who worked with Eriksen at Ajax, told Ekstra Bladet. "First Ajax, then Tottenham and then the highest level.

"I think he’s ready for a step higher. He has all that a Barcelona player must have.

"He has an overview, he has a working ethic, and he kicks well with both legs."

De Boer oversaw Eriksen's development at Ajax, first as manager of the youth team before four nearly four seasons in the first-team fold ahead of the midfielder's 2013 move to White Hart Lane.
