Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte have been shortlisted for Fifa’s men’s coach of the year award.

The Tottenham and Chelsea bosses will be vying on a 12-man shortlist as part of the world football governing body’s The Best awards, which are in their second year.

The remaining 12 coaches up for the prize include Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho and his cross-city rival Pep Guardiola, who endured his first trophy-less season of his career at City.

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is the likely favourite for the prize after his team won La Liga and became the first side to retain the Champions League since AC Milan in 1989 and 1990.

Conte led Chelsea to the Premier League title and FA Cup Final in his first season at the helm whilst under Pochettino Spurs emerged as the champions’ nearest rivals despite having been outspent by the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United in the summer.

Meanwhile the shortlist for the women’s coach of the year includes Chelsea Ladies’ boss Emma Hayes, one of only four club bosses in contention for the prize.
