Who Tottenham could face in the Uefa Champions League last 16: Knockout stage draw pots and seedings
Tottenham confirmed themselves as the winners of Group H with a game to spare, and will be among the Pot One seeds in Monday’s draw.
Successive victories over Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund secured top spot for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, who can now look forward to the last 16 after Wednesday’s clash with Apoel Nicosia.
The Cypriots will battle it out with Dortmund for a place in the Europa League, while Madrid progress with Spurs as group runners-up.
But who could Tottenham face in the next round? Standard Sport runs you though the permutations for Pochettino’s side…
Pots and seedings
As the winner of Group H, Spurs know they will be pitted against one of the group runner-ups from Pot Two.
But as their own triumph over Real Madrid has shown, there are plenty of big fishes to have missed out on top spot.
Group | Runners-up |
A | FC Basel |
B | Bayern Munich |
C | Chelsea |
D | Juventus |
E | Sevilla |
F | Shakhtar Donetsk |
G | FC Porto |
H | Real Madrid |
Who Tottenham could face…
Uefa rules stipulate that two sides from the same country cannot face one another in the last 16, meaning that Group C’s second-ranked side, Chelsea, are out of the equation. Likewise, Tottenham cannot be paired with Real Madrid, who they met in the group stages.
So who could they face?
Group | Runner-ups |
A | FC Basel |
B | Bayern Munich |
D | Juventus |
E | Sevilla |
F | Shakhtar Donetsk |
G | FC Porto |
Bayern Munich and Juventus are the teams to avoid for Spurs, while they would fancy their chances against the FC Basel or perhaps FC Porto.
The other possibility is Shakhtar Donetsk from Group F.
When is the draw?
The draw will take place at Uefa headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland on Monday, December 11. The draw is set to get underway at 11am GMT, and you can follow it LIVE on Standard Sport.
