Tottenham fans have joined supporters from other top-flight clubs in the ‘Charity Not PPV’ campaign to donate money to food banks rather than watch the club’s pay-per-view games.

Newcastle fans donated £20,000 to a food bank over the weekend instead of paying to watch the 4-1 defeat to Manchester United on Sky Sports, while supporters from United, Aston Villa, Burnley and Leeds have also been raising money for charity.

The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust said they had received a number of requests from fans wanting to contribute to a local food bank, with the club’s first pay-per-view game set to be against Brighton on November 1.

A statement from THST said: "We are talking to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, the Premier League and Sky Sports, lobbying alongside our colleagues in the Football Supporters' Association for a fairer deal for fans.

"We're hearing that opposition on social media and reported in the press is having an effect on the TV companies and the Premier League, so anything fans can do to keep the volume of noise up is welcomed.

"If nothing changes, we'll be publicising the option of donating the £14.95 PPV fee to Tottenham Foodbank."

Clubs agreed the PPV scheme as an “interim solution”, with fans still not allowed into grounds, but have faced a backlash. Sky have declined to share the numbers who paid for their PPV games from this weekend.

THST added: "You can donate via the Tottenham Foodbank Justgiving page.

"You can also donate £3, £5, £10 or £20 straight to the foodbank by texting TOTTENHAM 3, TOTTENHAM 5, TOTTENHAM 10 or TOTTENHAM 20 to 70085. Texts cost donation amount plus one standard rate message."
