Tottenham fans were celebrating on Tuesday night after their 1-1 draw in Barcelona, and a little luck in Milan, saw the north Londoners seal their place in the Champions League last 16.

After taking just one point from their first three group stage games, manager Mauricio Pochettino and his squad have achieved what few outside their camp believed possible in making the knockout stages for a second successive season.

As well as ensuring their name is in the Champions League hat rather than the Europa League for Monday's draw, the result has given a much maligned advert a chance at coming true.

For a short time in June, Tottenham ran a campaign across the capital hailing their new stadium as the only place to watch Champions League football in London.

But the delays mean their new 62,062-seat home is still not open, and with all their European fixtures to date having been staged at Wembley, the advert has been a target of ridicule for rival fans.

One Arsenal fan even took the step of contacting the Advertising Standards Authority, complaining that the advert made false claims.

Now, though, Spurs have the chance to host Champions League football at the new stadium this season, so long as they are ready on time.

Uefa have confirmed that they are in contact with the club over the location of their games in the knockout stages, which begin in February.

One fan called on chairman Daniel Levy to reinstate the advert across London: "Only one team in London still in the Champions league white hart Lane awaits," he wrote on Twitter.

"Leavy [sic] get the posters out".

Other fans declared the campaign "BACK ON", while one fan took aim at rivals Arsenal, simply tweeting: "I thought north London was red!".
