Tottenham job 'one of the most exciting in world football', proclaims Mauricio Pochettino after new deal

Mauricio Pochettino has hailed the Tottenham job as one of the ‘most exciting in world football’ after penning a new five-year deal in north London.

After challenging chairman Daniel Levy to ‘be brave and take risks’ in order to take the next step after securing a third successive year of Champions League football, he and his coaching staff have all committed themselves to the club until 2023.

The Argentinian had raised questions over his future in the final weeks of the season, saying that another manager could well continue the project he began when he joined from Southampton in 2014.

However, with the move to the new stadium now coming ever closer and with key players set to follow suit and sign new deals, Pochettino is delighted to be staying.

"I am honoured to have signed a new long-term contract as we approach one of the most significant periods in the club's history and be the manager that will lead this team into our new world-class stadium.

"This is just one of the factors that makes this one of the most exciting jobs in world football and we are already making plans to ensure we continue to build on the great work that everyone has contributed to over the past four years.

"Daniel and I have spoken at length about our aspirations for this football club. We both share the same philosophies to achieve long-term, sustainable success.

"This is a special club - we always strive to be creative in the way we work both on and off the pitch and will continue to stick to our principles in order to achieve the success this club deserves."

The new deal puts an end to any speculation ahead of a summer in which Pochettino has been assured of significant funds to invest on players, with the window closing earlier than usual, ahead of the opening day of the Premier League season.
