Former clubs and team-mates of Hull City's Ryan Mason have wished the midfielder well as he recovers from a fractured skull sustained against Chelsea.

Mason was stretchered from the field wearing an oxygen mask after clashing heads with Gary Cahill in the first period of Hull's 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The former Tottenham star was taken to St. Mary's Hospital where he is now in a stable condition after undergoing surgery.

Hull confirmed Mason's condition in a statement and are expected to issue a further update on Monday, with the midfielder now set to remain in hospital for a few days.

The 25-year-old spent spent nine years as a Spurs youth player from 1999 and was handed his first professional contract with Tottenham in 2008.

He experienced loan spells away at Yeovil, Doncaster Rovers, Millwall, Lorient and Swindon before being named in Tottenham's Premier League squad under Mauricio Pochettino in 2014 and establishing himself in the first team.

Mason made his Premier League debut in a 1-1 draw at Emirates Stadium in September 2014 and went on to make 29 starts for the club that season.

He was called into the England team by Roy Hodgson in 2015, but a long-term injury last term contributed to Mason's tumble down the pecking order at White Hart Lane and he secured a £13m move to Hull last summer.

Mason has made his mark at Hull, starting 11 top flight games and scoring once, and the the number of 'get well soon' messages from those who have been part of his career to date suggest the midfielder has made an impression wherever he has been.
