Tottenham news: Mauricio Pochettino gives biggest indication yet he will be Spurs manager next season

Mauricio Pochettino has given his strongest indication yet that he will still be Tottenham Hotspur manager next season even if they win the Champions League final next weekend, dismissing fears that European success could end his five-year spell with the club.

Pochettino previously raised the possibility of leaving Spurs if they go all the way in Europe, having reached next Saturday night’s final against Liverpool in the club’s first foray to the European Cup final in their history.

The 47-year-old arrived at Spurs from Southampton in 2014, and although the club are yet to win the Premier League title under his tenure, they are within touching distance of a first major trophy that would undoubtedly prove the highlight of Pochettino’s career so far.

And despite discussing the prospect of leaving the club before the semi-final victory over Ajax, he appears to be in a clear frame of mind in what he will be doing next season.

“Today Tottenham is, for me, the best club in the world when we talk about facilities,” Pochettino told Talksport on Friday.

“This training ground and the new stadium, which is the best in the world, there is no better club. And then it's in London, there's no better city, it's England, it's the Premier League – the toughest and most exciting league.

“We need to make that step and of course we realise we can continue in this process and we can put Tottenham with the best teams in the world. There's still a lot of work to do, but of course I am so motivated to stay with Tottenham and provide Tottenham with what they deserve.”

Pochettino’s admission is a clear sign that he remains committed to the project that he started half-a-decade ago, with Tottenham looking to kick-on next season and join Manchester City and Liverpool as Premier League title contenders.

But before he can turn attentions to next season, Pochettino must find a way for Spurs to down Liverpool in Madrid to become Champions League winners, and his task has been boosted by the return of Harry Kane and Harry Winks to training ahead of the final.

Both England internationals have not played since picking up injuries against City in early April, but the club are optimistic that at least one of them, if not both, will feature against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

“(Kane) is training and has entered the final stage of his recovery,” he added. “We're hoping he'll be able to give us a hand, either from the start, from the bench, or if not, then by giving us moral support in the dressing room. But we're optimistic he'll be able to help us on the pitch.”
