Tottenham have turned a corner, says Rose

Danny Rose admits Tottenham have not been good enough this season, but he hopes they have put their mini-slump behind them with their victory against Brighton.

Spurs ended a run of three straight defeats when they won 2-1 at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, getting back on track after a difficult few weeks.

Mauricio Pochettino demanded more from his players after losses against Watford, Liverpool and Inter Milan, and they responded on the south coast.

Rose admits there has been a drop-off in performances this term, but the defender hopes Tottenham have now turned a corner.

“We have not been up to standard and we are well aware of that,” said Rose. “It is something that is not good enough but it is not something we are worried about just yet, and Saturday was a great start in hopefully picking up some momentum.

“We have gone against the odds in the last two or three years and that is just the standards we have all set for ourselves. We are not going to shy away from that. Hopefully now we kick on.”

Tottenham moved up to fifth place after goals from Harry Kane and Erik Lamela saw off Brighton, and Rose is targeting wins against Huddersfield and Cardiff to make up some ground on the teams above them.

Spurs travel to Huddersfield on Saturday before playing Cardiff at Wembley the following weekend, after their home game against Barcelona in the Champions League.

“We have got good fixtures now on paper,” said the left-back. “I would like to think we are going to get full points in all those games before we go away for the international break. That is the plan.

“If I look back over the last few years we do not start great and we normally pick up momentum around October and November, and we always have a strong Christmas period.”

Tottenham face Watford in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday in a game that has been moved to Milton Keynes because their new stadium is not ready.

“It is just the same as playing home games at Wembley,” said Rose. “We have been away from home now for a year and a bit and it is no different.

“[Stadium] MK is a beautiful stadium so it is no different and it is not an excuse that the manager would ever let us use. It is a beautiful pitch as well so we are looking forward to it and our job remains the same.”
