Police officer in hospital after being run over by speeding car in Tottenham

A police officer has been taken to hospital after being hit by a speeding car in north London.

According to police, a car was stopped by officers at about 11.30am at White Hart Lane, Tottenham.

The suspect vehicle stopped, but then sped off - striking an officer as it left.

The officer was then taken to hospital but his condition is unknown. The Metropolitan Police said they have not yet made any arrests.

The force said in a statement: “The suspect vehicle stopped for police, but then drove off at speed colliding with an officer.

“The London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended.

“The officer has been taken to hospital. We await an update on his condition.

“There have been no arrests. Enquiries are underway to locate the suspects and the vehicle.”

The incident happened close to White Hart Lane train station, just off High Road.

The police officer does not have life-threatening injuries the Metropolitan Police said later.

The force tweeted: "We can now confirm that the officer injured in #Tottenham this morning, who is a firearms officer, does not have life-threatening injuries. Enquiries continue to locate the suspects and the vehicle."

Last month, a male police officer was taken to hospital with head and leg injuries when he tried to pull over a car in Coventry.

The officer was attempting to stop the vehicle when he was run over and the driver fled the scene.
