Tottenham set to miss out on key midfield target after Chelsea ‘price out’ London rivals
Reports suggest that Chelsea will not sell midfielder Conor Gallagher before the transfer deadline, despite him being heavily linked with Tottenham.
It’s thought that Ange Postecoglou saw the England international as a potential replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has received interest from several European clubs.
Gallagher is an important player for Chelsea. He made 45 appearances in all competitions last term, scoring three goals and making one assist in the process.
As reported by TEAMtalk, Tottenham enquired about singing Gallagher on Thursday.
West Ham made a £40m bid for the 23-year-old earlier in the window, which was rejected. It now seems that Tottenham will also have to look for alternatives if they want to bolster their midfield.
According to the Daily Mail, Gallagher is set to remain at Chelsea despite interest from Spurs. The report claims that the Blues have ‘priced out’ their London rivals.
They add that Gallagher is ‘happy’ to remain at Stamford Bridge, despite weighing up his options after the Blues brought in Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Cole Palmer.
Whether or not Tottenham decide to make a late move for another midfielder after missing out on Gallagher remains to be seen.
