Tottenham fans have flooded the phone lines of a Hertfordshire golf club after an image surfaced on social media which appeared to show Gareth Bale is booked in for a round of golf with Daniel Levy on Friday afternoon.

Bale is due in London on Friday to complete a sensational return to Spurs on a season-long loan deal that will cost Spurs less than £15million in wages and fees.

And a form posted online appears to show that Bale, Levy and chief scout Steve Hitchen have their names down for 18 holes on Friday afternoon at Hadley Wood Golf Club, which is close to the club's Enfield training complex.

Twitter user @Thogden shared an image of the 1.52pm tee time, adding: "Gareth Bale’s booked in for a game of golf at my mate’s golf club tomorrow.

"You couldn’t write this."

But his ruse was rumbled when the golf club poured cold water over the claims on Thursday evening.

Hadley Wood revealed their phone lines had been ringing off the hook with fans desperate to get a slot alongside the Spurs hero.

"Never had so many Friday afternoon tee time requests," the club tweeted.

"#WeWish #BaleBack #HadleyWood #COYS."
