Tottenham target Max Meyer says it is '50-50' whether he will leave Schalke this summer

Max Meyer says there is a “50-50” chance he will leave Schalke this summer after Tottenham targeted him in the January transfer window.

Mauricio Pochettino had the German international on his shortlist in the search for creative reinforcements but Spurs made no major purchases during midseason. Tottenham had also considered a £38million move for Meyer in August.

The 21-year-old’s contract at Schalke is due to expire at the end of the 2017-18 season but Meyer told Bild that an agreement with the Bundesliga giants was not imminent.

“There have been no further talks,” Meyer said.

Asked whether he would consider signing an extension if it was put on offer he added: “Why not? I can perceive both things. The chances are 50-50.”

In a separate interview with ZDF TV over the weekend Meyer said that Schalke have “little time” for talks with him.

Despite being heralded as one of Germany’s brightest young talents Meyer has struggled to impress manager Markus Weinzierl, who criticised the playmaker after a DFB Pokal defeat to Bayern Munich earlier this month.
