Tottenham Thrash Newcastle

Tottenham thrashed Newcastle United 4-0 at White Hart Lane to reach the Capital One Cup semi-finals.

Goals from Nabil Bentaleb, Nacer Chadli, Harry Kane and substitute Roberto Soldado handed the hosts revenge for their Premer League defeat against Alan Pardew's men back in October and put them to within a two-legged semi-final, against League One's Sheffield United, of Wembley.

Bentaleb scored his first ever senior goal at club level to hand Tottenham a 1-0 lead before the break.

Young United goalkeeper Jak Alnwick flapped at Christian Eriksen's corner and that allowed the Algerian to pounce.

Just 34 seconds into the second half Spurs double their lead. Nacer Chadli picked up possession just outside the area and struck a low right-foot drive into the bottom corner.

Kane bagged his 13th goal of the season to continue his record of scoring in every round of this season's competition and the in-form England U21's replacement Soldado added extra gloss, slotting home from close range after Eriksen's initial effort was saved.

Spurs were drawn to face the Blades in home-and-away ties next month while Liverpool will face Chelsea in the other semi-final.
