Tottenham vs Chelsea prediction: How will Carabao Cup fixture play out tonight?

Chelsea travel to north London tonight as they come up against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup fourth round.

The two Premier League outfits will know a win would not only boost their chances of securing a trophy this season, but it would also provide some vital momentum after both drew in the top flight last weekend.

Tottenham conceded a penalty at the very end of added time after a controversial handball incident, meaning they shared points with Newcastle after a 1-1 draw, while Chelsea managed a dramatic second-half comeback against West Brom, erasing the 3-0 first-half lead earned by the Baggies.

That result for the Blues followed their 6-0 dismissal of Barnsley in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, a match in which new signing Kai Havertz got off the mark for the club by netting a hat-trick. Meanwhile, Spurs were given a bye after a coronavirus outbreak among Leyton Orient’s first team meant the League Two club could not take part in the third-round tie.

When is it?

The match kicks off at 7.45pm BST at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

How can I watch it?

The fixture will air live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football, with coverage beginning at 7pm. Subscribers can also stream the game live on the Sky Sports app and website.

What is the team news?

Former England goalkeeper Joe Hart could make his first showing for Spurs, while fellow new signing Sergio Reguilon might get some game time at left-back. Gareth Bale is not expected to feature. Dele Alli’s likelihood of playing is hard to predict given his recent omissions…

New Blue Edouard Mendy has been named in Frank Lampard’s squad after missing out last weekend, so that’s another keeper who could well make their debut tonight. Fellow summer arrival Ben Chilwell is also included, so could step out for Chelsea for the second time.

Predicted line-ups

Spurs: Hart, Aurier, Alderweireld, Dier, Reguilon, Ndombele, Fernandes, Bergwijn, Son, Sessegnon, Lucas

Chelsea: Mendy, Azpilicueta, Tomori, Zouma, Chilwell, Jorginho, Barkley, Hudson-Odoi, Havertz, Mount, Giroud

Odds

Spurs: 7/2

Chelsea: 4/6

Draw: 16/5

Prediction

This is a tough one to call, with both teams having stuttered out of the gates this season. It will be interesting to see whether Reguilon and Mendy start for their respective sides and what kind of effect they could have on the game. While Chelsea have been inconsistent so far, they did net nine goals across two games last week. Expect them to edge an eventful affair… Tottenham 1-2 Chelsea.
