Tottenham forward Heung-min Son makes his first start of the season as manager Mauricio Pochettino rings the changes for their Champions League opener against Inter Milan at the San Siro.

The 26-year-old had been away on international duty with South Korea but came off the bench in the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday.

The Argentine boss confirmed that defensive pair Toby Alderweireld and Kieran Trippier had been left behind in London, a choice Pochettino bluntly described as a "technical decision".

Having already faced a selection dilemma with injuries to Hugo Lloris, Moussa Sissoko and Dele Alli, Pochettino has opted to bring back Heung-min Son to start alongside Erik Lamela and Harry Kane in attack in what looks to be a 4-3-3 formation.

Serge Aurier starts in place of Tripper at right-back, while Ben Davies is brought in to replace Danny Rose on the other side at left full-back.

With Alderweireld out, Colombian centre-back Davinson Sanchez regains his place in the starting line-up, having sat out of the 2-1 home defeat to Liverpool on Saturday.

Spurs will be hoping to avoid a third consecutive defeat under Pochettino for the first time since he took charge in 2014, after the defeat to Liverpool and the 2-1 away loss at Watford.

However, Inter Milan are also struggling for form after losing 1-0 at home to newly-promoted Parma.

It means the Nerrazurri have just four points from their opening four Serie A games, despite being tipped as title contenders.

Manager Luciano Spalletti has recalled star striker Mauro Icardi to the starting XI for his Champions League debut, but the Italians will be without full-back Danilo D'Ambrosio, who suffered a bruised muscle at the weekend.
