Tottenham vs Liverpool: Jose Mourinho believes Spurs could go on trophy spree if they win Champions League

Jose Mourinho thinks Tottenham could be set for a trophy spree if they win the Champions League against Liverpool.

Mauricio Pochettino is yet to win a trophy in charge of Spurs but has inspired a remarkable run to Madrid, including a thrilling comeback against Ajax.

Mourinho, who has been out of work since being sacked by Manchester United in December, believes Spurs could be set for sustained success if they can finally land silverware next week.

“Of course, Spurs is not winning titles and to win the first one, the biggest one of all, would be, of course, fantastic and would mean to win other domestic trophies (is easier) because the Champions League is the biggest one of all,” Mourinho said.

“I think, big match, of course, with huge levels of pressure. We used to say finals are not to play, finals are to win.”

Spurs’ hopes of succeeding at the Wanda Metropolitano were boosted by Harry Winks returning to training.

The England midfielder has been out with a groin injury for three weeks.

But Pochettino could have Winks as an option vs Jurgen Klopp‘s side.

Winks’ partnership with Moussa Sissoko is seen as Spurs’ best in midfield, while Harry Kane and Jan Vertonghen are also back in contention.
