Tottenham vs Liverpool - LIVE!

Harry Kane finally got back on the scoresheet in a 2-2 Premier League draw with Liverpool.

Diogo Jota headed Liverpool level in the 35th and Andrew Robertson nodded the visitors in front from close range in the 69th.

Spurs players were furious as they thought Dele Alli was fouled in Liverpool’s penalty area in the buildup but the appeals were dismissed.

Spurs needed just five minutes to equalize as Alisson Becker made a mess of clearing Harry Winks’ ball through, allowing Son Heung-min to slot into an empty net.

Moments later Liverpool was reduced to 10 men as Robertson got sent off for a wild kick on Emerson Royal.

Liverpool held on but the dropped points are costly, slipping to three points behind leader Manchester City, which beat Newcastle 4-0.

Tottenham is six points behind fourth-place Arsenal but with three games in hand due to coronavirus and snow postponements.

Full-time: Tottenham 2-2 Liverpool

18:26 , Jonathan Gorrie

What a pulsating game.

Please don’t stop, Premier League.

18:22 , Jonathan Gorrie

92:00 - That’s surely it.

Kane finds Son in the box in acres of space but the forward is denied by Alisson’s leg.

What. A. Game.

Off goes an impressive Dele

18:11 , Jonathan Gorrie

Dan Kilpatrick on Robertson’s red

18:10 , Jonathan Gorrie

There’s no doubting Robertson’s challenge was nasty but Liverpool can point to inconsistency given Kane’s first-half challenge was not reviewed in the same way. Both sides can now say they have been on the wrong side of a poor refereeing decision.

Spurs have to take this

18:10 , Jonathan Gorrie

80:00 - They are never going to get a better chance to beat Liverpool.

A win here would surely make them favourites for the top four and send a statement to the rest of the league.

18:08 , Jonathan Gorrie

18:06 , Jonathan Gorrie

77:00 - Robertson SENT OFF for a kick on Emerson Royal.

18:05 , Jonathan Gorrie

Let’s catch our breath...

Dan Kilpatrick on Liverpool’s goal

18:05 , Jonathan Gorrie

A Liverpool sucker-punch felt grimly inevitable following all those Spurs misses but the hosts have every right to feel aggrieved after the ball struck Salah’s arm in the build up. That said, Spurs were on the receiving end of two very lucky refereeing decisions in the first half.

GOAL: Tottenham 2-2 Liverpool - Son ‘73

18:03 , Jonathan Gorrie

73:00- WOW!

Son played in, rounds Alisson, and taps into an empty net.

So much drama

18:02 , Jonathan Gorrie

Spurs wanted a penalty for a push on Alli and a handball given against Salah.

Seconds after, Robertson heads in. Expect this one to run and run.

GOAL: Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool

17:59 , Jonathan Gorrie

69:00 - Robertson heads in from a fizzing Alexander-Arnold cross.

Came seconds after Spurs wanted a penalty for a push on Alli.

The memes are coming

17:56 , Jonathan Gorrie

Liverpool’s tactical tweak

17:54 , Jonathan Gorrie

64:00 - Klopp’s side are now going 4-2-3-1 in an effort to get in behind Spurs’ defensive midfielders and central defenders.

Probably explains the Skipp change.

Conte’s first change

17:53 , Jonathan Gorrie

Dan Kilpatrick on Spurs’ creativity

17:51 , Jonathan Gorrie

Spurs must have created as many big chances this evening as in the entire Nuno Espirito Santo era. That’s hugely positive but it’s bordering on ridiculous that they haven’t scored again, leaving you fearing the inevitable sucker-punch...

Liverpool waste a corner

17:50 , Jonathan Gorrie

61:00 - Terrible from Robertson, who hits the first man.

Liverpool have not been at it at all today.

Enter, Roberto

17:48 , Jonathan Gorrie

Liverpool show their appreciation

17:47 , Jonathan Gorrie

17:45 , Jonathan Gorrie

56:00 - From the resulting corner, Kane misses a great chance with his head.

Mixed game from him today.

17:44 , Jonathan Gorrie

55:00 - Alli squares to Kane, who cannot lift it over Alisson.

Half chance for Liverpool

17:44 , Jonathan Gorrie

54:00 - Matip, ever the optimist, slides in Jota after a mazy run up the field.

The Portuguese is well-blocked, however.

17:43 , Jonathan Gorrie

17:42 , Jonathan Gorrie

51:00 - Winks brought down by Matip right on the edge of the box.

Spurs want a penalty. Not even a free-kick given.

Dan Kilpatrick’s verdict on the second-half so far

17:40 , Jonathan Gorrie

The question for Spurs in the second half is can they maintain their intensity. The whole squad is effectively coming off an unplanned winter break, which may help some and hinder others. Conte will obviously have to be particularly prudent in managing his Covid-hit players.

17:38 , Jonathan Gorrie

48:00 - Jota heads just wide after a wonderful cross from Alexander-Arnold.

A look at that Kane tackle

17:37 , Jonathan Gorrie

Klopp still not happy

17:37 , Jonathan Gorrie

47:00 - Even before the second-half kicked-off, Klopp was shown in the tunnel looking for answers from the match officials.

A correction

17:35 , Jonathan Gorrie

An apology to Dele Alli must be issued.

He didn’t miss. THIS was the save from Alisson. Astounding.

Back underway!

17:34 , Jonathan Gorrie

45:00 - Liverpool kick us off.

The kind of game you never want to stop

17:32 , Jonathan Gorrie

Given the very real prospect of a Premier League shutdown soon, we should savour every moment.

End to end stuff and both sides are fighting for their lives. Pure chaos.

A look at Jota’s goal

17:29 , Jonathan Gorrie

Jamie Carragher on Jota’s goal

17:27 , Jonathan Gorrie

“That header is out of this world.”

More VAR drama

17:26 , Jonathan Gorrie

A reminder....

17:19 , Jonathan Gorrie

What they said..

17:19 , Jonathan Gorrie

17:18 , Jonathan Gorrie

48:00 - Kane can’t quite control what looks like a tap in.

What a half.

Fine margins

17:16 , Jonathan Gorrie

Spurs hanging on here

17:16 , Jonathan Gorrie

46:00 - After such a good start and so many missed chances, Liverpool are in the ascendancy.

17:13 , Jonathan Gorrie

41:00 - Alexander-Arnold forces Lloris into yet another save with a smart volley at the far post.

Dan Kilpatrick update

17:10 , Jonathan Gorrie

Spurs have rued big misses against Liverpool in the past, notably the chances for Bergwijn and Kane at Anfield last season. You wonder if they will look back on the Son and Alli openings after Jota’s equaliser.

17:08 , Jonathan Gorrie

Dan Kilpatrick’s verdict

17:07 , Jonathan Gorrie

On the plus side, Spurs have not looked this impressive as a team for a long time, particularly considering the circumstances. On the down side, you fear Liverpool will make them pay for these missed chances, as they have often done in the past.

GOAL Tottenham 1-1 Liverpool - Diogo Jota ‘34

17:05 , Jonathan Gorrie

34:00 - And there we have it.

Jota heads in from a Robertson cross.

17:04 , Jonathan Gorrie

17:04 , Jonathan Gorrie

33:00 - Kane just can’t quite find Son after Alli breaks into space.

This has been a rip-roaring performance from the home side. Klopp is angry.

You feel, however, Liverpool have much more in them.

17:02 , Jonathan Gorrie

30 min verdict

17:01 , Jonathan Gorrie

What a game this is.

End-to-end stuff.

17:00 , Jonathan Gorrie

29:00 - How on earth has Alli not scored?

Played in by Son, the midfielder has only Alisson to beat in acres of space and puts it wide.

16:59 , Jonathan Gorrie

26:00 - Robertson swings a cross in to the back post for Mane to head in but Davies somehow gets there.

Spurs are defending for their lives but breaking nicely.

Spurs are defending for their lives but breaking nicely.

Dan Kilpatrick on the Kane tackle

16:54 , Jonathan Gorrie

Kane is very lucky to have avoided a red card for that challenge on Robertson and it’s a surprise the VAR did not recommend a second look on the monitor. Conte has clearly got him fired up, at least.

16:54 , Jonathan Gorrie

22:00 - Keita , who really should have scored, is denied by Lloris inside the box.

Kane booked

16:51 , Jonathan Gorrie

19:00 - Dangerous looking tackle from Kane on Robertson.

Lucky to have escaped with a yellow...

What Spurs are making of it

16:49 , Jonathan Gorrie

Dan Kilpatrick on Harry Kane

16:48 , Jonathan Gorrie

Conte said recently that Kane only needs the right service to start scoring again. And that’s what Ndombele can bring. The Frenchman’s pass to release Kane was inch perfect and it was a fine finish from the England captain.

Dan Kilpatrick’s verdict

16:46 , Jonathan Gorrie

Both sides are missing key personnel in midfield and Conte’s response has been a tweak of formation. Winks, Dele and Ndombele – who all have a point to prove – are playing as a midfield three, with Son pushed up in support of Kane. It’s a departure from Conte’s usual 3-4-2-1 system.

GOAL: Tottenham 1-0 Liverpool - Harry Kane’13

16:44 , Jonathan Gorrie

13:00 - Brilliant finish from the England captain after Ndombele played him into the box.

That’s more like it!

16:42 , Jonathan Gorrie

12:00 - Kane gets a shot off, albeit on the turn, in the box but can only find Alisson.

Big save

16:40 , Jonathan Gorrie

10:00 - Alexander-Arnold, fresh from his stunning goal in midweek, forces Lloris into a save with another rasping effort.

Early offisde

16:38 , Jonathan Gorrie

08:00 - Son is trying to exploit that high line of Liverpool’s it seems.

Spurs’ game plan clear.

Wasted Spurs corner

16:35 , Jonathan Gorrie

04:00 Sessegnon wins a corner after a raked ball from Dier, though Spurs waste that particular set-piece.

That needs to improve.

Early chance

16:32 , Jonathan Gorrie

01:00 - Robertson heads wide. Liverpool starting brightly.

Kick off!

Evening Standard Prediction

14:59 , Jonathan Gorrie

Under Conte, Spurs have been functional rather than fantastic. In most other games, it’d be tempting to suggest they could withstand pressure before stealing a goal on the counter, but Liverpool surely have too much.

Liverpool to win 2-1.

Liverpool team news

14:46 , Jonathan Gorrie

Liverpool are without Virgil van Dijk, Curtis Jones and Fabinho for tonight’s Premier League clash with Newcastle after all three players registered “suspected positive tests for Covid-19”.

Better new for Jurgen Klopp is the Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino is available again after injury and starts on the bench, though Jones’ Covid diagnosis adds a further delay to his own return.

Tottenham team news

14:37 , Jonathan Gorrie

Antonio Conte has warned his Tottenham squad it will take them time to regain match fitness after their Covid-enforced break as they face Liverpool this afternoon.

Nine of Conte’s squad were forced into isolation after testing positive and, although he is set to have the majority available on Sunday, the Italian says they are only likely to be fit enough for a place on the bench.

“They need time to be fit,” he told reporters on Friday.

“Before picking the starting XI you have to take into consideration all of this. For instance, to start with one player and after 60 or 70 minutes change him with one player who had Covid. In this situation, it’s important to have patience and take the right risk.”

Giovani Lo Celso could start for the first time under Conte after returning to training midweek following a knee injury, while Sergio Reguilon was expected to rejoin the group on Saturday although may not be deemed ready to start.
