Tottenham to welcome 200 fans back to stadium for screening of Burnley away game

Tottenham will on Monday evening welcome supporters back to their stadium for the first time since March, amid calls from Jose Mourinho for the return of fans.

The club will host a socially-distanced screening of tonight’s Premier League match at Burnley for around 200 executive members in the West Stand hospitality areas.

Tickets for the event were available at a first-come-first-served basis and priced at £39 per person and Spurs said the event would be used to test their Covid-secure protocols, including new digital ticketing system, ahead of the proper return of fans.

“The club is determined to do everything in its power to help fans get back in our stadiums as soon as possible,” Spurs said in an email to members. “As such, we will be using this event as an opportunity to test a number of Covid compliant protocols we plan to use for future matchdays.”

Manager Mourinho has backed the return of supporters to terraces, saying empty grounds are making him sad. Spurs will play in front of fans for the first time since March in Thursday’s Europa League game at Royal Antwerp.

Spurs have scored 19 times in their past four matches and Mourinho said he would be happy with the return of even a small number of supporters, particularly as Tottenham fans would appreciate their team’s attacking verve.

“I am [enjoying the season] but I’m sad with the empty stadiums,” Mourinho said. “On Thursday [in the Europa League win over LASK], I had an even worse feeling than in the Premier League. Maybe because of the way the stadium is — all of the orange logos of the Europa League all around the

stadium, the beautiful big screens. Teams are playing with some fans. I’m not even speaking about full stadiums, but with some fans. In the majority of countries, it’s possible and we are going to have that in Belgium. It would be really great fun.

“The Tottenham fans, they have a little bit of that in their DNA: quality players, attacking players, attacking style. They would enjoy to be here to watch it.”

Dele Alli, who has not started in the League since the 1-0 defeat to Everton on the opening day, is not thought to have travelled with the squad yesterday.
