Jose Mourinho can effectively start planning for next season tonight after the dismal defeat at Sheffield United all but ended Tottenham's Champions League hopes – but he has insisted professional pride remains on the line.

Everton's visit is the second of four matches across ten days but the bulk of Tottenham's rotation is likely to come in Thursday's trip to struggling Bournemouth (three days before the north London derby), where the likes of Jan Vertonghen, Oliver Skipp, Tanguy Ndombele and Ryan Sessegnon will all hope to start.

There are some minor tweaks against the Toffees, however, with Toby Alderweireld coming in to play his first minutes since the restart after a wretched defensive performance at Bramall Lane. Davinson Sanchez drops out.

Giovani Lo Celso appeared to struggle in the second half in Yorkshire as he continues to play through a niggling groin problem but the playmaker carries on, while Harry Winks adds extra support in midfield, with Steven Bergwijn dropping to the bench.

Dele Alli is not risked while he nurses a minor hamstring complaint, while Ryan Sessegnon misses out once more.
