Erik Lamela has confirmed the surgery on his injured hip was a success.

The Tottenham star has not featured since October's EFL Cup defeat to Liverpool at Anfield despite Spurs initially claiming he was only suffering from a minor problem.

Mauricio Pochettino admitted last month that he did not know when Lamela would make his first-team return and after consultation with specialists the decision was made last week that surgery to correct the issue would be the best way forward.

And Lamela is now beginning the long road back after undergoing the operation on Saturday.

The Argentine will not feature again this season, but tweeted on Sunday morning: "The surgery went well, thanks to all for your positive messages #thanksgod."

Meanwhile, Harry Winks is facing a significant spell on the sidelines after being stretchered off during the defeat to Burnley and taken to hospital.

Victor Wanyama was withdrawn with a back problem, and faces a fitness test ahead of Wednesday's trip to the Liberty Stadium.
