Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino must keep pace or risk losing Harry Kane and Dele Alli, says Danny Murphy

If Tottenham do not start to win major trophies, there will come a time when players like Harry Kane and Dele Alli will start to look elsewhere.

Let me be very clear. I don’t see this happening for at least three years. But if after that period they still do not have many medals, they will look at the squad and start to ask questions.

Spurs are in a difficult place. They have a strong team who everyone enjoys watching but they need a little bit extra. They are very reliant on Kane and Alli, who have contributed 41 goals between them this season.

So how do they find that missing ingredient that would allow them to take the final step? Do they relax their wage structure and try to sign the very best players? Or do they stick to their current policy and trust manager Mauricio Pochettino to keep improving the men he has?

Pochettino is doing brilliantly. But with the amount of wealth elsewhere, I’m not sure the latter option will be good enough.
