Andrew Harper: Touching way family of ‘murdered’ PC are paying tribute to him on Facebook

Family and friends of the police officer killed investigating a burglary in Berkshire have changed their Facebook profile pictures in a touching tribute to the PC.

Andrew Harper, 28, died while attending a suspected burglary on Thursday night near Sulhamstead in Berkshire.

After his death was announced friends of PC Harper’s paid tribute to him by changing their Facebook profile pictures to a “thin blue line” - symbolising solidarity with the police force.

Thames Valley Police said in a press conference on Friday that PC Harper had married wife Lissie just four weeks before his death.

He was also due to be going on honeymoon with her next week.

Scores of the couple’s friends and family paid emotional tributes to PC Harper on Facebook on Friday using the “thin blue line”.

“Such horrible news,” one person wrote, “Sending our condolences to you and your sister and family.”

“I’m Sorry for the loss of your colleague and friend buddy,” another person wrote on PC Harper’s friend’s profile picture, “My thoughts are with you.”

Thames Valley Police said on Friday that ten people, including a 13-year-old boy, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and an investigation has been launched.

Chief Constable John Campbell confirmed that PC Harper died after being dragged along the road behind a vehicle.

Mr Campbell said Pc Harper was a “highly regarded, popular member of the team” and added the force’s flags are flying at half mast as a sign of respect “in honour and memory of Andrew”.

The Police Roll of Honour Trust, which commends officers who have died in the line of duty, has said Pc Harper’s death will be recorded on the list, adding: “His service and sacrifice will never be forgotten”.
