Tourist Numbers Down at Cambodia's Angkor Wat Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

The coronavirus outbreak had a visible impact on tourism in Cambodia, with visitor numbers down at Angkor Wat, on March 10.

More than 6 million people visited Cambodia in 2018, with around 2 million of those tourists coming from China. Restrictions on movement in China and the fear of traveling due to the coronavirus may have impacted on visitor numbers to the country’s major tourist attraction.

Cambodia had 2 confirmed cases of the virus on March 10, according to the World Health Organisation.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said tourism services and schools in Siem Reap would resume operations as soon as they had identified the people who had been in contact with the country’s confirmed cases of coronavirus, according to local media. Credit: Dek_islander via Storyful
