Tourists Drive Through Intense Storm in Polatsk

Tourists driving through Polatsk, Belarus, had a close call with a severe storm as it tore through the area on August 2.

Li Chao recorded this video and originally posted it to VK. Chao told Storyful he is in Belarus for summer vacation and was traveling by car with friends when the tornado passed.

The footage shows the group of friends driving toward a dark cloud as wind and rain begin to pick up. The swirling cloud can then be seen as the car begins to reverse. Trees are knocked over as the storm passes.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus, the storm brought strong winds, uprooted trees and damaged roofs in the area. In a statement the ministry said it was working to clean up fallen trees on highway P-20. Credit: Li Chao via Storyful
