TOWIE fans have spotted another blunder... and it's a great one.

During last night's episode [March 26], Pete Wicks was heard boasting about the lavish getaway he'd treated Megan McKenna to for their one-year anniversary.

Clearly impressed with himself, the Essex boy bragged to pal James Lock that no expense was spared as he whisked his girlfriend away for champagne and strawberries in a chic country hotel.

But according to a number of TOWIE viewers, that wasn't champagne at Pete and Megan's table...

"Pete from TOWIE only after saying about him and Megan's bottle of champagne... I think u mean Tesco own brand prosecco mate," one amused fan wrote on Twitter afterwards.

Another then added: "The towie lot might have plenty of money but Megan and Pete are sat there drinking a £6 bottle of prosecco from Tesco for their anniversary."

Moments later, another viewer commented: "I love how Pete says he was romantic and brought a bottle of champagne but it was actually a £6 bottle of prosecco from Tesco #towie"

Shorty afterwards, another wrote: "Mmm, that wasn't champagne Pete, that was Tesco's £6 Prosecco #towie."

We're not saying there's anything wrong with prosecco – personally, we love the stuff.

Purely by coincidence, Megan broke up with Pete pretty quickly after taking a sip from her glass.

Out loud, she blamed the break-up on him being so miserable pretty much every day – and later confessed to her mum she found it hard to get over Pete's sexting scandal.

But secretly, it's possible she'd simply had enough after being served prosecco instead of champagne. Who knows?

TOWIE airs onWednesdays and Sundays at 10pm on ITV.
