A town centre primary school remains "inadequate" after a follow-up inspection by the education watchdog.

An Ofsted inspector visited Greyfriars Academy in King's Lynn in January.

In a letter to head Aidan McGovern, she writes: "Greyfriars Academy remains inadequate and has serious weaknesses.

"Leaders have made progress to improve the school, but more work is necessary for the category of concern to be removed."

The school on London Road, which has 280 pupils, was previously rated "inadequate" at a full inspection last May.

After her follow-up visit, the inspector adds there have been "significant changes of leadership" since then.

The previous headteacher left in June 2022 and Mr McGovern was appointed in September.

The inspector says he is bringing about "considerable changes to the culture of the school".

She adds: "This culture change has improved conditions for pupils to learn, to make friends and to feel safe. Staff, too, feel supported and much happier.

"Although progress has been made to improve the quality of education, there is more that needs to be done to ensure that the improvements to pupils’ educational experiences are sustained and of the highest quality."
